Abstract

A jacket in the form of a vest or shirt which has a pocket at its lower extremity on one side for retaining a pole in a generally vertical orientation

Description

2017100696 12 Jun2017 1
Fishing Jacket
Field of the Invention 5 This invention relates to jackets for fishermen and in particular a vest or shirt designed with provision for holding of a fishing rod. However, the jacket could be used to facilitate holding any rod like device.
Background of the Invention 10
The specification of JP2001037391 discloses a jacket which has a tube for inserting the hand grip of a fishing rod fixed in the vicinity of the bust, and the leg of the reel mounted to the fishing rod comes into contact with the upper edge of the grip and is held within the tube thus holding the rod without placing 15 it on the ground. The short coming of this design is that the tube attached to the jacket provides little vertical support for the fishing rod which can to topple out of the tube. JPH1112832 discloses a shoulder pad formed of many standing pieces on the 20 upper surface of a plate like portion which adheres to the top of the shoulder of the jacket. The standing pieces are tapered so as to grip a fishing rod to prevent it sliding off when carried on the shoulder. However with this device the fishing rod still has to be held by the hand on the shoulder. 25 Object of the Invention
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a fishing jacket which holds a fishing rod hands free or at least to provide an alternative to prior art devices. 2017100696 12 Jun2017 2
Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention, a jacket in the form of a vest or shirt has a pocket at its lower extremity on one side for retaining a pole in a generally 5 vertical orientation.
Preferably the jacket also has a shoulder strap for retaining the pole in its generally vertical orientation without other support. 10 Preferably the shoulder strap is buttoned to allow mounting and freeing the pole.
Preferably the pole is a fishing rod which is held hands free with the reel and runners of the rod lying away from a wearer’s body. 15
Alternatively the pocket and shoulder strap are formed from Velcro strips.
Brief Description of the Drawings 20 Fig 1 is a frontal view of a fishing jacket with fishing rod mounted and Fig 2 is a side on view of the jacket of Fig 1
Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiment 25 In Figs 1 and 2 a fisherman is wearing jacket 1 designed in accordance with the present invention. The butt 2 of fishing rod 3 is held in pocket 4 of jacket 1. Rod 3 is retained vertically against the wearer’s torso by shoulder strap 5 which folds around the shaft of rod 3 and is buttoned at 6. 30 Accordingly rod 3 is held securely in a vertical attitude leaving the fisherman’s hands free. Butt 2 of rod 3 is easily placed in pocket 4 and the shaft of rod 3 is 2017100696 12 Jun2017 3 easily secured by buttoning shoulder strap 5. Similarly rod 3 is easily freed by unbuttoning shoulder strap 5.
Reel 7 of rod 3 lies naturally away from the fisherman’s body and runners 8 5 carry line 9 away from the fisherman so that line 9 does not snag on jacket 1. Accordingly, after the fisherman has cast line 9 and rod 3 is stowed in jacket 1, line 9 remains free to respond when there is a bite.
Variations 10
It will be realized that the foregoing has been given by way of illustrative example only and that all other modifications and variations as would be apparent to persons skilled in the art are deemed to fall within the broad scope and ambit of the invention as herein set forth. For example, Velcro strips 15 could be used to secure butt 2 in pocket 4 and as shoulder strap 5.
Throughout the description and claims to this specification the word “comprise” and variation of that word such as “comprises “and “comprising” are not intended to exclude other additives components integers or steps. 30
