Abstract

Abstract A self contained, semi portable pump. Installation and removal of the pump is achieved in one operation to facilitate maintenance or installation at a second site. The cast iron bowl assembly has an above mounted discharge head with vertical outlet windows equally spaced around its circumference and is fabricated in epoxy coated mild steel (see fig 1). Windows pump includes a vertical axial or mixed flow bowl assembly including pre adjustable variable pitch impeller blades (see fig 2) to gain required performance, cast iron suction bell mouth and diffuser. Shaft is stainless steel running in water lubricated cutless rubber bearings. A stainless steel floating disc non-return valve is located within the windows discharge head. When the pump starts it rises above the window space to allow unimpeded flow through the windows and on stopping falls below the windows to prevent backflow. (see fig 3) The vertical stainless steel enclosing tube around the pump shaft acts independently as a support and guide for the non-return valve disc. (see fig 7). This is the necessary modification which the previous patent did not include. The shaft driving the pump extends vertically above the discharge head through a drive extension for coupling to an above mounted electric motor or spiral bevel right angle gear drive for diesel engine drive. (see fig 4) The length of the drive extension varies with the height of the pump structure (see fig 5). Pump structure is precast concrete (see fig 8). The windows discharge head has a below windows baseplate with rubber seal to prevent leakage between bottom and top chamber (see fig 6).
