Description

1 Description We have invented a wipe which offers a new method of transferring insect repellent to the skin. We have developed a process whereby a wipe or tissue is infused with several substances which acheive the following: 1. Deter insects such as mosquitoes from landing on and potentially biting humans. 2. Incorporate the active ingredient N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) into the tissue. 3. Allow for a easier method of applying and reapplying the insect repellent. The process of making the wipes involves infusion of several liquids into the wipe or tissue. More specifically the invention uses DEET (full name N,N-Diethyl-meta toluamide) as its active ingredient in order to deter biting insects. In addition to the active ingredient, a number of other ingredients are added to reduce or avoid the growth of any mould in the tissue over time and to act as preservative. The process of producing the wipes is as follows: 1. Obtain suitable tissue or wipe material. In the current configuration our invention uses a 70% polyester and 30% rayon non woven fabric as the basis for the wipes. The tissue is submerged in the active liquid during the manufacturing process and the wipes are then sealed in an aluminium foil or plastic laminate package. Specific ingredients used in the invention are: Aqua(water) Propylene Glycol Methyl P-hydroxy benzoate Propyl P-hydroxy benzoate Disodium EDTA Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone 2 2 Bromo-2 Nitropropane 1, 3 Diol N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) Perfume The amount of DEET used in this particular formulation is 6.9% approx however this can be varied if required.

Claims (4)

1. A wipe manufactured to be applied to human skin as a deterrent to insects.
2. As per the claim in item 1 above, the tissue serves to store and then to transfer the insect repellent liquid to the skin.
3. As per the claim 1 above, the wipe utilises N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) as the active ingredient used to deter insects.
4. As in claim 1 above, the also includes other ingredients to balance the formulation, provide preservative, prevent mould growth etc.
