Editorial note 2009 100 282 Claims page number 3 Description page numbers 2,4,5,6,7 -2 Urinal rechnical Area [his inentin relates toa UrinaL laekgreand to the Invention. n many commercial premises urinals are provided for the use by males but ;enerally in domestic premises and small offices and the like, there are no irinals and men (which will be used as a general expression for all males) need o use a standard toilet bowl when urinating. rhis can be deemed to be unsatisfactory in many cases as men generally do ot appear to be accurate in aiming their urine stream and, as such, the area around the toilet can be contaminated by the urine which is misdirected. Also, for young boys, there is often difficulty in physically reaching the edge of the toilet bowl and this can be frustrating and embarrassing for the children, quite apart from their fore-said difficulty of urine being misdirected. It is the object of the present invention to provide a urinal which largely obviates these previous difficulties. Y-ASPECuddymn G Udnal 190308.pd ATICM 11408 -4 Description of an Embodiment of the Invention The container may be generally circular in cross-section, but it is preferred that it tapers somewhat from adjacent the upper end to an outlet, to be described, and may be of the order of the size of a two-litre soft-drink bottle. In one wall of the container there is an aperture spaced from the lower portion thereof and of a size such that a user can readily position his penis into the opening of the container. The container may be provided with handle-means extending outwardly there from, and in a particular form, may have a pair of handles, one on each side of the aperture, which enable ready adjustment of the position of the container. The container is also provided with a control means to permit flushing thereof; as will be described further hereinafter, and this may comprise a press-button tap or the like located at the top of the container, but it could be located beside one of the handles, if required. The outlet of the container may be used to maintain the support of the container and the supply of liquid thereto, as well as to permit the removal of urine and other liquid from the container. Y:\SPECMuddiynan G Urinal 190308.wpd AT/CM 114/08 -5 In one form of the invention there is a support arm which consists of a plurality of members, possibly four, which are each interconnected to enable pivoting in at least one plane and the lower one of which is connected to a fitting on the floor or a wall adjacent the required position of the urinal. The length of the members comprising the arm and the number of these will depend upon the location of the urinal, but basically, it is desirable that the urinal be located between, say, a half and one-and-a-half metres from the level of the floor. Depending upon the form of arm members used the lower arm member may be connected to the attachment means so that it can rotate more-or-less vertically around the attachment and the intermediate arms may be adapted to rotate about a single axis, although universal joints could be used. Passing from the outlet from the container there can be a tube which may be of the order of two-and-a-half centimetres in diameter and may be a fully-flexible tube which can pass through the members of the support arm and be able to pass around the pivotal connections where the tubes meet and, at its lower end, pass through the support member and be connected into the sewerage outlet. A preferred way of doing this is to make a connection direct to the rear of a standard toilet bowl by providing an aperture through this preferably on the upstream side of the trap which is formed as part of the bowl. Alternatively it Y:\SPEC\&uddyrnan G Urinal 190308.wpd ATICM 1/4/08 -6 could be connected to the sewer by connection to the outlet from an adjacent toilet bowl. Also passing through the tubes there can be a further flexible member which is able to carry water from the reticulated supply into the container, from there is connected to the valve previously mentioned, and from the valve may pass to a flush head or the like which can cause water to pass over a substantial part of the inner portion of the container to ensure that there is good flushing of the urine remnants which are within the container. When the device is to be used the user simply uses the handle to raise the container to a required level, and it may be that for many different people this level can be the same, assuming that the size of the opening in the side of the container is of a reasonable length. The form of connection between the pivotal members of the arm is such that once the urinal is placed in position, it is not likely to move from there and, if necessary, the connections could have a general tension adjustment which can ensure that this is the case or can even be locked in position, if it is to be used by a single person or a group of people of approximately the same size. When urination is completed, a substantial percentage of the total quantity of urine will have passed through the outlet to the sewer and it is only necessary to use a relatively small quantity of water to effect flushing, so that the device is Y:\SPEC\Muddyman G Urinal 190308.wpd AT/CM 1/4/08 -7 in position, if it is to be used by a single person or a group of people of approximately the same size. When urination is completed, a substantial percentage of the total quantity of urine will have passed through the outlet to the sewer and it is only necessary to use a relatively small quantity of water to effect flushing, so that the device is very economical in water usage. Whilst there has been described herein one particular embodiment of device, it is to be understood that the size and arrangement of the container can be varied, the handles and flush means can be varied, and the arm can take any form which provides the required support and the capability of adjustment. Any and all such variations are within the scope of the invention.
