Description

Description Some older style linear fluorescent fittings use what is referred to as a "rapid start" ballast. This type of fitting does not have a starter and can only take a special "rapid start" lamp. These lamps are 40W T12 in size when designed for four foot fittings.
Over the years rapid start fittings, which had the advantages of modern day electronic ballasts (eg no flickering), began becoming less common. So did the lamps that were specifically made for them. It then stood to reason that the costs of the lamps also increased making the maintenance of the fitting more expensive.
This invention has created an adaptor that will allow for a new technology T5 lamp to be used in the fitting without the need to make any modifications to the fitting itself.
This will have significant benefits in terms of energy savings (around 30%) but will also increase the maintenance cycle between lamp changes thus decreasing overall costs. It will also remove the need for an electrician to modify the fitting as all the modifications required to allow the T5 adaptor to work are contained within the adaptor. The change over is simple, can be performed by anyone that is able to change a fluorescent lamp and would take no more than a couple of minutes per lamp.
