Description

EQUESTRIAN TRAINING AID GARMENT WITH PENDANT Historically equestrians have found it physically challenging, time consuming and monetarily costly if employing the services of a coach, to aquire harmonious movement 5 with the horse, commonly called the independent seat which is a fundamental requirement for correct riding technique. The problem associated with acquiring an independent seat is how the equestrian discovers correct pelvic movement. The purpose of this invention is to assist equestrians to automonously acquire and refine an independent seat. 10 In accordance with this invention an 'Equestrian Training Aid Garment with Pendant', worn by the equestrian, comprises a garment made with a front and back bodice which is fastened together over the shoulders with adjustable straps and fastened together at the sides with adjustable straps at chest height and at waist height, with the front bodice 15 having a centered adjustable positioning attachment for attaching a pendant. The pendant is of such a length and weight and positioned on the front bodice at a preferred height so that when the rider is not moving in harmony with the horse the pendant will move excessively and sound too noisy so as to indicate to the rider their 20 pelvic movement is incorrect. When correct pelvic movement is acheived the pendant stops swinging and is less noisy therefore indicating to the rider their pelvic movement is correct. The bodice of the garment is made with sun-block curtain fabric however any suitable 25 material either natural or man made fibre can be used. The shape of the bodice is of a typical dressmakers pattern however any suitably shaped bodice can be used. A length of velcro is attached down the centre of the front bodice for the purpose of hanging the pendant however any suitable products such as press studs can be used for this purpose. A length of velco is attached down both sides of the front bodice and at the 30 top of both shoulder extensions of the front bodice for the purpose of attaching their respective adjustable straps however any suitable products such as press studs can be used for this purpose. Preferrably all adjustable straps are sewn at their respective positions onto the back bodice. The garments shoulder, chest and waist straps outer layer are made of the same fabric as the bodice however any suitable material either 35 natural or man made fibre can be used. The shoulder, chest and waist straps inner 2 layer is made with velcro sewn onto the outer layer. The shoulder straps are adjustable for height over the shoulders, the chest and waist straps are adjustable for width around the torso. All straps are preferrably sewn onto the back bodice and fastened onto the front bodice to their respective positions using velcro however any suitable fastening 5 products such as press studs or buckles can be used. The pendant is preferrably made with metallic chain of suitable length and weight which is determined by the riders current skills however any suitable weighted object can be used, for example plastic beads. The chain is preferrably attached to a metallic D ring which has a tab of velcro sewn onto its flat end however the use of a D ring or any other centre piece on the io pendant is optional. The pendant is hung onto the front bodice centre velcro via the opposing velcro on the pendant D ring. The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention which: is FIGURE 1 is an elevation of an 'Equestrian Training Aid Garment with Pendant' with all parts assembled and all adjustable parts attached. FIGURE 2 is an elevation of the back bodice inside view with all adjustable straps attached and extended to their fullest open position. FIGURE 3 is an elevation of the front bodice outside view showing the positioning of all 20 velcro attachments. FIGURE 4 is a view of the assembled pendant with preferred components. FIGURE 5 is a depiction of the use of velcro. The garment shown in FIGURE 1 is comprised of a two piece bodice 10 and 11 with 25 pendant 4 attached. The shoulder straps 6 are sewn onto the back bodice 10 and fastened onto the front bodice 11 with velcro 5. The chest straps 7 and waist straps 8 are sewn onto the back bodice 10 and fastened onto the front bodice 11 with velcro 5. FIGURE 2 illustrates the inside view of the back bodice 10. The shoulder straps 6 sewn onto the back bodice shoulder extensions 9 with velcro 5 sewn onto the inner layer. 30 The chest straps 7 and waist straps 8 are sewn onto the sides 16 of the back bodice 10 with velcro 5 sewn onto the inner layer. FIGURE 3 illustrates the outside view of the front bodice 11 with velcro 5 attachment positions at shoulder extensions 17, sides of front 12 and centre of front 13 for attaching the pendant 4. FIGURE 4 illustrates the assembled pendant with preferred components. Tab of velcro 5 sewn onto D ring 14 35 with lengths of chain 15 suspended from D ring 14.
3 The garment shown in FIGURE 1, an 'Equestrian Training Aid Garment with Pendant' assists the rider to autonomously acquire and refine an independent seat by alerting them to incorrect body movement and/or indicating when correct body movement is achieved by way of the attached pendant 4. The difficulty in initiating the correct body 5 movement to acquire and refine an independent seat derives from the problem that the rider is faced with addressing multiple tasks simultaneously. This invention assists the rider by reducing the required considered application of multiple tasks to one. When the rider fixes their thought on stabilising the pendant 4 which is attached to the centre front 13 velcro 5 of the garment their body unknowingly responds in the correct manner to io achieve correct pelvic movement. The rider is immediately alerted to incorrect pelvic movement when the pendant 4 begins to swing too vigorously and sounds too noisy thus directing their focus quickly to readdress pelvic movement. Co-ordination of the fundamental requirements to achieve and refine an Independent is Seat is addressed with this invention.
