Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Applicants: Siemens Schweiz AG SIEMENS AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT Invention Title: METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SEQUENCE FORMING The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us: -2- Method and device for sequence forming This present invention concerns a method and a device to make a predeterminable sequence of transport containers available for their further processing, for example at a loading station.
In logistical processes it is a frequently arising requirement, that articles or containers filled with articles which are to be removed at a loading station have to be conveyed in a predetermined fixed or also dynamically alterable, yet predeterminable sequence.
Devices known at this stage are not in the position to satisfy this requirement efficiently and in a space-saving manner.
Therefore the object of this present invention is to specify a method and a device with which it is possible to make transport containers available with a predeterminable sequence of transport containers for further processing.
The invention provides a method to make a predeterminable sequence of transport containers available at a loading station, comprising the following steps: a) removing transport containers supplied on a first transport belt in a substantially random sequence to at least one buffer belt, that runs at a first angle to the first transport belt, and b) placing the transport containers from the buffer belt onto a second transport belt in a predetermined sequence by means of a container displacing device, and supplying the transport containers to the loading station.
In an embodiment the transport containers are transferred from the second transport belt to a third transport belt, running at an angle to the second transport belt, the transport containers being supplied on the third transport belt to the loading station.
In an embodiment the transport container is unloaded at the loading station and the emptied transport containers are subsequently transferred from the third H:acindatkeep\specp61597 amended specificationdoc 31 08/06 -3transport belt to a fourth transport belt running at a second angle to the first transport belt and afterwards from the fourth transport belt to a fifth transport belt, essentially running in the direction of the first transport belt.
In an embodiment the first and the fifth transport belts are the one and same transport belt and represent a circulating belt.
In an embodiment the first and the second angle are essentially right angles, which are essentially unfolded in the plane of the first transport belt.
In an embodiment the third transport belt runs essentially in the direction of the first transport belt.
In an embodiment the container displacing device is a pushing device.
The invention provides a device to make available a predeterminable sequence of transport containers at a loading station, comprising the following components: a) a first transport belt to supply the transport containers in a substantially random sequence and at least one buffer belt that runs at a first angle to the first transport belt onto which buffer belt the transport containers can be transferred from the first transport belt, and b) a controllable container displacing device and a second transport belt, the container displacing device transferring the transport containers in the predetermined sequence from the buffer belt onto the second transport belt.
Thus it should be possible, for example, to remove at a loading station the contents of the container entirely or partly in the desired container sequence and join with others or further transport same. It should, however, be also possible at these loading stations to stack the containers with their contents manually or automatically on a pallet to retain also in this case the sequencing of the containers during stacking, what could correspond, for example, to a predetermined unloading sequence in a food store.
H: lacindat'keepspec\ 61597 amended specficatin.doc 31108/06 -4- Thus it is possible in a simple manner to set the desired sequence of the containers by intermediately storing the containers on the buffer belt and selectively transferring of the containers situated on the buffer belt to the second conveyor belt.
Thus the first and second angle, inter alia, can be essentially at right angles, which are essentially unfolded in the plane of the first conveyor belt. In this manner the entire transporting of the containers can be carried out essentially in one plane. Naturally, in an appropriate manner an essentially horizontally extending plane comes to mind. In this manner it is possible, for example, to execute the displacement device for the containers as a pusher, what can be carried out far simpler and operationally more reliably than displacing transport containers, for example, in a vertical direction in the desired sequence.
The invention is explained in the following in detail as an example, based on the drawing. They show in: Fig. 1 a schematic top view on a first device, and Fig.2 a schematic top view on a second device.
Fig.1 shows a schematic top view on a first device, that shows a circulation path 1, situated in a pre-zone of a miniload storage (not illustrated here). At least one or several loading stations 5 are arranged in this circulation path 1. A load unit LE, removed from the miniload system, reaches the relevant loading station via a number of conveyor belts 1, 2, 4. The load unit LE is removed from the circulation path 1 to a buffer conveyor 2 (see Fig. On this buffer conveyor 2 several load units LE may be simultaneously accumulated. The sequence of the load units LE on this buffer conveyor 2 is arbitrary to a large degree.
To enable to present the load units LE to a loading station 5 in a predetermined sequence, the load units are transferred in the correct sequence by a displaceable pusher 3 from the buffer conveyor 2 to a conveyor 4, running parallel to the buffer belt 2. The conveyor 4 transports the load units LE to the HRacindat\keep\specAp61 597 amended specification doc 31 108/06 consignment place 5, where the removal of the article is carried out. After the removal of the article at the loading station 5, the load unit LE is conveyed again to the circulation path 1 via a further conveyor 6. The load unit LE can be transported from there back to the miniload storage or the next loading station.
The conveyor belts provided in this embodiment are essentially horizontal, approximately in one plane, what constructively is particularly simple and, for example, allows the use of a pusher 3, simple to realise. In principle, however, it is also possible for one or several of the conveyor belts to have an ascending and/or descending section.
As Fig.2 shows, it is also possible to install a second buffer section 2.1 with an associated pusher 3.1 on the other side of the conveyor 4. In this case it is also possible to use a displaceable pusher that can serve both buffer paths 2 and 2.1.
In this manner particularly good use can be made of the place available in the plane to intermediately buffer many transport units, also called as load units LE, on the two buffer belts 2 and 2.1, so that the transport units could be displaced by means of the pusher 3 or a comparable device to the next conveyor belt, for example to the conveyor 4.
In the claims which follow and in the preceding description of the invention, except where the context requires otherwise due to express language or necessary implication, the word "comprise" or variations such as "comprises" or "comprising" is used in an inclusive sense, i.e. to specify the presence of the stated features but not to preclude the presence or addition of further features in various embodiments of the invention.
It is to be understood that, if any prior art publication is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the publication forms a part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any other country.
