the groove is provided with projections h which protrude into corresponding depressions in the pack a and thus make it impossible to move the pack in the circumferential direction i.
In the embodiment of the invention according to FIG. 1 with a circumferential packing, this is indivisible to the effect of the centrifugal force and, if the friction on the groove walls is too low, it would follow

likewise interlocking elevations and depressions are provided on the groove side surfaces and all of the packing which secure the latter against outward radial movement. In Fig. 1, for. For this purpose, for example, the side surfaces q of the groove are provided with projecting edges A: which do not allow the packing a to escape in the radial direction I.
If the packing consists of several individual ring-shaped or ring-sector-shaped pieces that are to be strung together in the axial direction, it must be ensured that each individual packing ring hit in the above-mentioned manner against displacement in the circumferential direction and in the radial direction with respect to its socket is secured. This is difficult to achieve by simply lining up the packing rings, because the packing rings in the middle either have to be attached to the cylindrical surface of the packing space or they have to be held in place by means of the two outermost packing rings, which abut the side surfaces of the packing space and are here, as described above, in can be kept in the correct position.
Since such a connection does not guarantee reliable securing of the middle rings, especially when the packing is rotating, it is better to place closed rings between the packing rings, which on the one hand can be axially displaced by corresponding interlocking parts, e.g. B. by tongue and groove, are connected to the inner cylindrical surface of the packing space and on the other hand carry the aforementioned projections or depressions to secure the position of the packing rings. Fig. 4 shows an embodiment of the type described with four packing rings a. Between these are the closed rings M, which are attached to the inner surface n of the cylindrical packing space by tongue and groove
