The invention relates to a microscope eyepiece with good correction of chromatic and spherical aberration, which eyepiece consists of four lens groups, one biconvex lens and two doublets being provided.
The object of the invention is to create an eyepiece which is well corrected for the usual field aberrations, in particular coma, astigmatism and distortion, but at the same time has an essentially flat field of view, and which is well corrected for the spherical aberration when it is used together with a telephoto lens and associated prisms is used as part of an afocal viewing system in an infinity corrected microscope.
According to the invention, it is proposed that the foremost lens is a doublet of a biconcave and a concavo-convex lens element, the concave surface of which is on the eye side, that a concave-convex lens then follows on the eye side, the convex surface of which is on the eye side, whereupon the biconvex lens and the second A doublet consisting of a biconvex lens element and a biconcave lens element on the eye side follow.
An eyepiece with a magnification of 15.5 x can be formed, the field of view being 51.4, the real field of view being 15.5 mm. These values result in excellent image quality across the entire field of view and viewing with or without glasses is equally convenient.
The drawing shows the optical diagram of a 15.5 x microscope eyepiece according to the invention.
The parameters of the lens elements that make up the objective are listed in the following table, where ND is the refractive index of the D-line of sodium and v is the Abbe's number. The radii (R), the thicknesses (T) and the distances (S) are given in mm, with a minus sign indicating that the lens radius has its center of curvature on the object side of the lens.

In the tables, the minus signs represent concave radii that run from left to right.
The following should be pointed out: the apparent over-precision due to the large number of decimal places is somewhat fictitious for a number of reasons. A change in the radii (especially an increase) by a few millimeters causes only minor changes, mainly in the focal lengths.
The same applies to the thicknesses, changes from 0.1 to 0.2 mm have no adverse effects. In fact, there are large areas of execution (provided the radii and thicknesses are properly balanced). It is clear to those skilled in the art that the lens data is only accurate to 3%.
