Description

    Pesticides.

The discovery was made through systematic experiments that the triple and multiple chlorinated aliphatic, as well as the analogous, i.e. H. Fatty aromatic alcohols substituted in the side chain and the ethers and esters which can be prepared from the above-mentioned bodies, in particular the trichloromethyl carbinols and their ethers and esters, have a remarkable insecticidal effect and are therefore extremely suitable for pest control, which was previously unknown.

The following were successfully used for experiments:
1. Trichlorocarbinol trichloroacetate C Cl3. COO. C. Cl3 = trichloroacetic acid trichloromethyl ester, crystals; Mp 34 C, bp 191-1920 C. It decomposes with water to form phosgene, trichloroacetic acid and HCl. Caution is advised here because of the phosgene and this body is only suitable for use in the open air or, like hydrogen cyanide, for ventilating closed rooms!
2. Trichloroisopropanol CCI3. CH (OH). CH3, m.p. 50 C, b.p. 1620 C. Smells camphor-like; burning taste.

 and subsequent acetylation.

While the more volatile, purely aliphatic substances, such as Examples 2-7, due to their notable volatilization, are particularly used to destroy, drive away and keep away insects (e.g. flies and moths) in rooms (apartments, stables, wardrobes, textile stores, magazines, etc. .) Are advantageously used, the fatty aromatic substances are suitable as such or in the form of solutions, emulsions and litter mixtures or litter powders particularly for the local destruction of pests of all kinds, for B. blood and aphids, vine pests, beet flies, moth brood and all kinds of insect brood.

The above substances and their homologues are likely to be of considerable use in agriculture.

The tests, which were carried out with a wide variety of insects, showed that the majority of the body classes specified at the beginning, especially acetone chloroform and its ethers and esters, have an excellent insecticidal effect, which was previously unknown.
