Der Strom fliesst nur in der Richtung der Elektrode 3 zur Elektrode 1. Während der Zeit, in der die obere Klemme 6 der Wechselstromquelle positiv ist, fliesst der Strom also von 6 über den Leiter J. die Kupfergaze 4, die Platte 3, die Platte 1, den Leiter 8, die Gleichstromklemmen 9 und den Leiter 10 zu der andern Klemme 7 der Wechselstromquelle. Während der folgenden Hälfte der Periode fliesst kein Strom. Die Gleiehstrombelastung nimmt also einen pulsierenden Gleichstrom auf.
Es ist ersichtlich, dass man durch Zusammensetzung verschiedener Gleichrichterzellen, z. B. in Grätz- oder Greinacher-Schaltung, auch die beiden Hälften der Wechselstromperiode gleichrichten kann.
Die Erfindung kann natürlich auch angewendet werden, wenn die Elektroden aus andern als den obengenannten Stoffen bestehen. Als Kathode kann man z. B. statt eines der Metalle der ersten Untergruppe der vierten Hauptgruppe auch Kupfer oder Kalzium verwenden. Von den Stoffen, aus denen die Anode bestehen kann, seien noch Phosphor, Bleisulfid, Molybdänsulfid. Eisenhammerschlag, Mangansesquioxyd, Silberchlorid oder Gemische dieser Stoffe erwähnt.

1. Trockener Plattengleiehriehter, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass dem Material, aus dem eine der Elektroden besteht, ein Sauerstoff abgebender Stoff zugesetzt ist.
