Schalplatte.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Formwork panel.
The invention relates to a record with a support body and one connected to it
Sound groove top layer. According to the invention, the latter contains a resorcinol condensation product with such an amount of glycerine that a highly elastic sheet is obtained after the final condensation caused by heating. The back of the plate is preferably coated with the same compound in order to prevent the plate from being thrown.
The support body can consist of a paper web of cardboard thickness, preferably of linen paper.
The following procedure can be used to produce the coating material: ground resorcinol is dissolved in heated formaldehyde, the solution is stirred and kept at a temperature between about 70 and 750 ° C. in order to increase its viscosity. When the correct viscosity is reached, a volatile solvent such as alcohol is added and the solution is then cooled to room temperature; then, if necessary after the addition of other substances, such as, for example, a rubbing or grinding substance, glycerine is added in such amounts that after the heating brought about
Condensation a highly elastic plate is obtained.
The coating material produced in this way is applied, for example, to a paper sheet, the coated sheet is dried and a heated embossing plate is brought under pressure to act on the coating layer of the paper sheet.
Glycerine has probably already been used on records, but in different proportions, depending on the composition, in order to make the mass sufficiently plastic for pressing and embossing at a higher temperature. According to the invention, on the other hand, the addition of glycerine is adjusted so that a particular elasticity of the finished product is achieved. Such highly elastic products of this type have not previously been known, but are very valuable in practice.
The records produced according to the invention are thin, flexible disks of particular elasticity, the upper layer of which is so hard that it is often able to withstand the action of the usual playing needle without the needle cutting through the record surface or breaking the walls between adjacent grooves. The coating material penetrates so deeply into the paper surface during production that it bonds securely to the paper and the coating material cannot be stripped from the paper without destroying the top paper layer itself.
Exemplary embodiment: A metal container, which is provided with a heating and cooling device (jacket or coil), ie with a device for rapid stirring or mixing, is filled with 1000 cm3 of commercially available 40% formaldehyde, to which 1000 g of commercially available resorzinol (metadihydroxylbenzene) may be added as filling, which are preferably ground so finely that they pass through a sieve which has ten meshes per inch. The mixture is stirred until solution has taken place and the mixture is slowly heated until the temperature rises to 70-75 ° C. Stirring is continued while the temperature is maintained within these limits until the viscosity increases to the correct usage consistency.
When coating the paper, this viscosity can be determined by applying samples of the material to the paper from time to time until the material forms a coating which lies broadly on the surface of the paper. The length of time that the material is held between the specified temperatures until it has the correct viscosity
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
reached, is usually 'about' half an hour. When the correct viscosity has been achieved, approximately 1000 cm3 of ethyl or methyl alcohol or mixtures thereof are added. The amount of alcohol can be changed depending on the method of applying the coating to the paper in order to increase or decrease the flow state. The mixture is now rapidly cooled to ordinary room temperature.
A rubbing or grinding material, for example 200 g of blush, is ground in 600 g of glycerine in the same way as paint is ground, and this is now added to the solution. The material is now ready for use and should preferably be applied to the paper immediately. The material bonds to the surface of the paper. The coated paper sheet is then dried until its surface is slightly tacky. It is then ready to use. The sound diagram printing plates are preferably heated to about 160 ° C. and pressed against the coated paper surface, so that the sound grooves are embossed into the coating material.
The printing plates and material are held together long enough to allow the material to cure or polymerize as required, which usually takes about a minute. The embossing plate is then removed and the embossed sheet can be broken down into the individual records. If the embossing plates tend to adhere to the material, this can be counteracted by providing the surface of the embossing plate with a light paraffin coating. Preferably, the sound diagram area is separated from

and show contraction.
