Process for greasing chrome leather of all kinds.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that the addition of a suitable brew or other extract from carob kernels or their finely ground seed coats when greasing chrome-tanned
EMI1.1
is prevented. An addition of about 30% of such a brew or extract from carob kernels or their finely ground germ layers gives a very good result, but it has also been shown that this occurs if the amount of oil, fat and (or) omits egg yolk in whole or in part and replaces it with the brews or extracts mentioned. This effect is based on colloidal causes, which result in a particularly favorable distribution of the emulsified fat and oil particles and their complete suspension in the fat-liquor emulsion.
This colloidal addition to brews or extracts probably causes a different binding of the molecules of the water. In any case, the result is that - without wishing to express a commitment to this percentage, which of course can vary within wide limits depending on the requirements of the end product - the amount of fat, oil and (or) egg yolk that has been usual up to now, e.g. B. can be shortened by about 30% and replaced by the watery colloidal brews or extracts, if the end result is better in terms of handle, fullness and even coloration. Instead of aqueous brews or extracts from ground carob kernels or their finely ground germ layers, other suitable aqueous colloidal solutions can also be used.
Since the colloidal brews or extracts are not to be regarded as emulsifying agents, it is advisable to add them first to the already emulsified amounts of fat or oil, which is particularly true for the very alkaline-sensitive brews or extracts from carob kernels.
It has also been shown that the brews have a particularly beneficial effect when they are mixed with a suitable preservative, preferably with formaldehyde, during their production.
The use of the brews or extracts, which are obtained by simply boiling and, if necessary, filtering, also means a considerable reduction in the previous fatigue costs, especially of course when with their help the previously usual amount of fats, oils and (or) egg yolks are whole or but at least a substantial part is replaced.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for fatliquoring chrome leather of all kinds, characterized in that when fatliquoring tanned hides, about 30% of a brew or other suitable extract from carob kernels or their finely ground germ layers is added to the fatty agents or their components.
