  Impregnating compound for electrical capacitors.

Capacitors are known whose dielectric consists of a mixture of paraffin and colophony. It has been shown that these capacitors lose their high insulation resistance after a while and their dielectric strength decreases. The cause of these phenomena is primarily to be found in the crystalline structure of the paraffin, since moisture easily penetrates into the spaces between the individual crystal bodies and thus reduces the properties of the capacitor.

According to the invention, the paraffin is replaced by ozokerite. Ozokerite is characterized by a slightly higher dielectric constant than paraffin. Of far greater importance for capacitors, however, are the properties of the amorphous structure and the higher drop point of the ozokerite.

Since in the commercially available ozokerite also small amounts of paraffin, i. H. If it contains low molecular weight hydrocarbons which tend to form crystalline precipitates, then, according to the invention, mixing the ozokerite with rosin prevents the paraffin from crystallizing out. The impregnating composition according to the invention is particularly suitable for tropical condensers, since as a result of the high dropping point the condenser still exhibits dimensional stability even at tropical temperatures and is insensitive to the effects of moisture.

The mixture according to the invention consists of 9 parts of ozokerite and one part of colophony.

The best mixing ratio depends on the origin of the substances used. For capacitors that are exposed to strong temperature changes, it is advisable to use an additive of carnauba wax. The following additions to the impregnating mass have proven to be a particularly useful mixture
