But it has been shown. that this construction is only useful where the slide should always be fully open: intermediate layers in which the passage of the slide is only partially open cannot be maintained because that prevailing in the housing
Pressure with the required dimensions of the piston is still capable. to drive the shut-off body together with the piston from an intermediate position into the highest position.
The subject matter of the present invention is a shut-off element, in particular a slide, the shut-off body of which is also operated by means of a pressure medium. z. B. Druekwasser to be influenced reciprocating piston is to be raised or lowered. but in which the one consisting of the shut-off body, the piston and the spindle connecting these two parts
Complex, which can optionally also include a plunger, as mentioned above. is under the influence of a brake or escapement at any point. which this
Holds the complex at any altitude when the propellant pressure on the piston ceases.
The effect of this brake or inhibition must of course be so great that neither the weight of the said complex in one direction nor that in the interior of the
Valve body prevailing pressure in the other direction is able. to overcome the resistance of this brake; just the pressure of either above or below the
Piston introduced propulsion water should be so large. that the braking resistor can be overcome. The shut-off body can therefore be held securely in any intermediate position. so you can also use the driving water after it has done its work. let it flow out of the lifting cylinder.
An embodiment of such a gate valve is shown schematically in the drawing.

The gland h of this stuffing box is loaded by springs i, the tension of which can be regulated by screws &, so that the stuffing box packing is always under the same pressure. that is so big. that the above-mentioned braking effect is exerted on the slide rod c. consequently the shut-off body b together with the slide rod c and the piston e in every height position. in which one brings him, stops.

Letting the motive water flow out of the cylinder f or out of the chamber g can be done automatically by a special design of the control system. It is only necessary that special constructive measures are taken to allow the motive water to flow out of the space above the piston e, regardless of which

otherwise it would not flow away.
In the illustrated embodiment is now shown. how all these requirements can be met by self-acting organs. The piston e contains a bore p passing through it, furthermore an outwardly leading opening q is arranged at the upper end of the cylinder f and an outwardly leading opening l ′ is arranged at the lower end of the chamber g. Resilient shut-off devices s, t, u, v are arranged at all of these openings, which are designed in such a way that they open the openings when they are under the influence of the pressure of the motive water. to which they are assigned, close while they release them when the pressure of the motive water ceases to act. In the drawing, the type of these shut-off devices is expressed in that they are shown as resilient flaps.
The opening p penetrating the piston e thus has such a shut-off device t on each side, u.
Should the piston from the closed position shown in the drawing completely or

The piston e, together with the shut-off body p, is raised to the desired height and the further flow of motive water is then blocked. the pressure in chamber g gradually equalizes and flaps u and v open the openings p and r associated with them. The water in the chamber g can flow out through the opening r and air can flow from the upper part of the cylinder f into the through the bore p
Flow into chamber g because opening q is also open.
If the slide is to be closed, pressurized water is let into the upper part of the cylinder f through the line l, whereby the flaps s and t immediately open the openings q

If the motive water flow is then blocked and the pressure in cylinder f gradually balances out, flaps s and t open, so that the water from cylinder f through bore p into chamber g and from here through the opening ? 'can flow off, while at the same time air flows in through the released opening q.
In terms of construction, the details described here can be implemented in various ways, in particular with regard to the brake or inhibition and what concerns the shut-off devices associated with the drainage openings. It can be these openings. to drain the motive water and to let in the air are also multiplied. With corresponding

The described drive device also has the advantage that it can be attached to any existing slide. It only needs the chamber g and the lifting cylinder to be attached and the slide spindle to be replaced by the piston rod e. In the worst case, the cover of the valve body would also have to be equipped with the stuffing box.
