Process for the briquetting of fuels with the aid of nagnesia cement that forms within the masses to be briquetted.

The invention relates to a method for briquetting fuels such as coal and. Like., In which the binding of the fuel particles takes place through magnesia cement, which forms within the masses to be briquetted. In a known process based on this principle, the coal is enriched with hydrochloric acid and then added to the mass of magnesia, in the form of powder or by mixing it into a jelly. This procedure shows the inconveniences that working with hydrochloric acid gas generally causes. As a result of their great chemical affinity, hydrochloric acid is known to attack almost all metals, so that only vessels and devices made of certain substances can be used during processing.

Furthermore, even with all precautionary measures, it cannot be avoided that hydrochloric acid vapors get into the work area and damage the health of the workers.

There is also known a method in which pulverized coal is mixed with burnt magnesia, a weak solution of magnesium chloride is added to the mixture, and the whole is then molded and pressed. This process has the disadvantage that the burnt magnesia eagerly absorbs carbon dioxide and water from the air, so that the mixture of coal and magnesia has to be processed as quickly as possible so that the magnesia does not lose its ability to form cement with magnesium chloride and also part of the heat of reaction lost when water is absorbed by the magnesia
