Abstract

Procesos para producir etanol a partir de hidrolizados lignocelulósicos que comprenden hexosas, pentosas y ácido acético, en el cual se usan células de levadura modificadas genéticamente que comprenden un gen exógeno que codifica una acetaldehído deshidrogenasa y un gen bacteriano que codifica una enzima con actividad glicerol deshidrogenasa ligada a NAD⁺. El proceso se caracteriza además porque el glicerol está presente o es alimentado al medio de cultivo, con lo cual la célula de levadura modificada fermenta las hexosas, las pentosas, el ácido acético y el glicerol en etanol. La presente se relaciona además con células de levadura que se usan en dichos procesos. Las células de levadura comprenden ventajosamente modificaciones genéticas que mejoran la utilización de glicerol, tales como modificaciones que aumentan una o más entre actividad dihidroxiacetona quinasa y el transporte de glicerol dentro de la célula.
