Abstract
Procesos para producir etanol a partir de hidrolizados lignocelulósicos que comprenden hexosas, pentosas y ácido acético, en el cual se usan células de levadura modificadas genéticamente que comprenden un gen exógeno que codifica una acetaldehído deshidrogenasa y un gen bacteriano que codifica una enzima con actividad glicerol deshidrogenasa ligada a NAD⁺. El proceso se caracteriza además porque el glicerol está presente o es alimentado al medio de cultivo, con lo cual la célula de levadura modificada fermenta las hexosas, las pentosas, el ácido acético y el glicerol en etanol. La presente se relaciona además con células de levadura que se usan en dichos procesos. Las células de levadura comprenden ventajosamente modificaciones genéticas que mejoran la utilización de glicerol, tales como modificaciones que aumentan una o más entre actividad dihidroxiacetona quinasa y el transporte de glicerol dentro de la célula. Preferiblemente la célula de levadura comprende además un gen de xilosa isomerasa exógeno funcional y/o genes exógenos funcionales que le confieren a la célula la capacidad para convertir L-arabinosa en D-xilulosa 5-fosfato y pueden comprender una modificación genética que aumenta la actividad acetil-CoA sintetasa.Processes for producing ethanol from lignocellulosic hydrolysates comprising hexoses, pentoses and acetic acid, in which genetically modified yeast cells comprising an exogenous gene encoding an acetaldehyde dehydrogenase and a bacterial gene encoding an enzyme with glycerol dehydrogenase activity are used linked to NAD⁺. Preferably the yeast cell further comprises a functional exogenous xylose isomerase gene and / or functional exogenous genes that give the cell the ability to convert L-arabinose into D-xylulose 5-phosphate and may comprise a genetic modification that increases activity acetyl-CoA synthetase.
