Abstract
Se proporcionan métodos y composiciones para preparar plantas cítricas con mejorada resistencia al cancro asiático de los Cítricos (ACC) y otras formas de cancro de los cítricos causadas por Xanthonomas. Los métodos incluyen la transformación de las células de plantas de cítricos con constructos de polinucleótidos que comprenden un promotor operativamente ligado a una secuencia de nucleótidos que codifica una proteína que es capaz de disparar la muerte celular en una planta cítrica. Los promotores son inducibles por una o varias cepas de Xanthomonas que causan cancro de los cítricos. También se proporcionan moléculas aisladas de ácido nucleico y casetes de expresión que comprenden tales constructos de polinucleótidos y promotores. Además se proporcionan plantas cítricas con mejorada resistencia a cancro de los cítricos.Reivindicación 1: Un método para preparar una planta cítrica con mayor resistencia al cancro de los cítricos, que comprende: (a) transformar establemente al menos una célula vegetal de cítrico con un constructo de polinucleótido que comprende un promotor operativamente ligado a una secuencia de nucleótidos que codifica una proteína de ejecución, en donde el promotor comprende al menos una caja UPT y en donde la proteína de ejecución es capaz de disparar la muerte celular en una planta cítrica; y (b) regenerar una planta cítrica transformada de la célula de planta cítrica transformada, en donde la planta cítrica transformada comprende mayor resistencia a al menos una cepa de Xanthomonas que causa el cancro de los cítricos.
