Abstract

El objeto que se revela en la presente se refiere a métodos y composiciones para identificar, seleccionar y/o producir plantas o germoplasmas tolerantes a la sequía. También se proporcionan las plantas o los germoplasmas de maíz que se identificaron, seleccionaron y/o produjeron conforme a cualquiera de los métodos del tema que se revela en la presente. Reivindicacion 1: Un método para producir una planta híbrida con mejorada optimizacion del agua; el método comprende: (a) proporcionar una primera planta que comprende un primer genotipo que comprende cualquiera de los haplotipos A-M; (b) proporcionar una segunda planta que comprende un segundo genotipo que comprende cualquiera de los haplotipos A-M, donde la segunda planta comprende al menos uno de los haplotipos A-M que no se encuentra presente en la primera planta; (c) cruzar la primera planta y la segunda planta de maíz para producir una generacion F1; y (d) identificar uno o más miembros de la generacion F1 que comprende un genotipo conveniente que comprende cualquier combinacion de los haplotipos A-M, donde el genotipo conveniente difiere tanto del primer genotipo de (a) como del segundo genotipo de (b), con lo cual se produce una planta híbrida con mejorada optimizacion del agua. Reivindicacion 9: El método de la reivindicacion 1, donde la mejorada optimizacion del agua confiere un rendimiento mayor o estabilizado en un entorno de estrés hídrico en comparacion con una planta de control. Reivindicacion 13: Una planta endogámica Zea mays producida por el retrocruzamiento y/o la autopolinizacion y/o la produccion de haploides dobles a partir de la planta híbrida Zea mays de la reivindicacion 9, o una célula, cultivo tisular, semilla o parte de ésta.
