Description

(No Model.)
A. 0. MILLS, Jr. LABEL HOLDER.
Patented Mar. 26, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMERIGUS O. MILLS, J R., OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
LABEL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,386, dated March 26,1895. 7
Application filed uly 21, 1894. Serial No. 518,254. (No model.) I
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMERICUS 0. thus, Jr., of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the reference-numerals marked thereon.
My invention has for its objects to provide an improved holder for labels adapted to be applied to cloth-winding boards, drawers, 800., which shall be simple and cheap in construction and easily attached, and which will prevent the accidental removal of the label but permit it to be positively removed when desired, and to these and other ends it consists in certain improvements in construction and combinations of parts, all as will be hereinafter fully described and the novel features pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a label-holder constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a longitudinalsectional view showing the manner of removing the label; Fig. 3, a cross-sectional view, and Fig. 4, a plan View of the blank from which it is constructed.
Similar reference-numerals in the several figures indicate similar parts.
As shown, the holder consists of a base or body portion 1 extended at the ends forming attaching ears 2, a face portion 3 having a longitudinal slot or opening 4,'anda tucking flap 5, which, when the holder is completed, is arranged beneath the base or body 1 and between it and the board or support 6 to which the holder may be attached, thereby preventing the unfolding of the holder. As thus formed the holder embodiesa flattened tubu' 'lar base into either of the ends of which a suitof the attaching pins or nails 8 which pass through the attaching ears 2,'though said heads are so rounded or inclined that the label may be positively slid longitudinally when the end will be guided outward, as shown'in ldotted'lines in Fig. 2, and it maybe removed and a new label inserted. I
The blank from which my holder is constructed is shown clearly in Fig. 4, the dotted lines indicating'the places where it is folded, and it will be noted that the face portion 3 is provided at the ends with short ears or flanges 3* which in folding the blank are turned under, as shown in Fig. 2, thereby forming a rounded edge that will not scratch the label when inserted but will otter slight friction to hold it and also serving to stiffen the ends of the holder and preventing their being closed by a blow or by dropping the article or support 6 to which the holder is attached,.although the heads of the attaching pins, screws or nails 8 projectbeyond the face of the holder and protectit. This blank may or other material as stiff cardboard and formed as shown by unskilled operators.
I claim as my invention- 1. A label-holder composed of a hollow, flattened,,tubular body open at the ends having attaching ears below and beyond said ends in combination with attaching devices, as nails or screws, having the rounded heads and passing through said ears and preventing the accidental though facilitating the positive removal of the labehsubstautially as described.
2. In a label-holder, the combination of'the base having the attaching ears, the overlying slotted face portion and the tucking flap connected thereto and turned beneath the base stantially as described.
3. In alabel-holder, the combination of the base having the attaching ears at the ends, the overlying slotted face portion having the beaded ends, the tucking flap connected thereto and turned beneath the base portion, and the securing pins or screws passing through the attaching ears, substantially as described.
holders formed of a single piece of material embodying the base portion 1 having the cars 7 be easily and cheaply "stamped out of metal portion and between it and the support, sub- 95, Y '4. The'herein described blank for label- 2, the portion 3 having the slot 4, and the 3*, and the tucking flap 5, the Whole being artucking flap 5, the whole being arranged to ranged to be folded, substantially as shown.
be folded substantially as shown,
5. The herein described blank for label- AMERIOUS MILLS 5 holders formed of a single piece of material \Vitnesses:
embodying the base portion 1 having the ears G. A. RODA,
2, the portion 3 having the slot4 and flanges F. F. CHURCH.
