STAND FOR RANGE-BOILERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,494, dated July 5, 1892.
Application filed January 23, 1892.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES M. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stands for Range- Boilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention has relation to stands or supports for range-boilers, and has for its object the provision of a novel construction of a boiler-stand or pedestal which may be adjusted in height so as to adapt it to the varying conditions of the range-boiler and the necessary plumbing connecting the latter with the range water-back and the Water supply.
My invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a boiler-stand, embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same with one of the sections of the pedestal removed. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line :1: 0c of Fig. 1.
A designates the lower or base portion of the stand, and B the upper and adjustable portion. The lower portion or pedestal A is a tubular structure having a flaring flanged base a, which rests upon the floor. The upright tubular portion A consists of two iron castings, each constituting a vertical half of the pedestal, and these are secured together after the adjustable portion B is in position by bolts b, passed through holes in the lugs b and b and held in place by nuts b the lugs b being formed at the sides of the sections of uprightportion A at the upper end thereof and the lugs Z) being formed on the base, as shown.
The base part or pedestal A may be of any form or configuration on its exterior; but interiorly its upright portion is rectangular in cross-section and is transversely channeled or grooved as shown at c, the grooves or channels being preferably angular. The stem B of the adjustable part B is also rectangular in cross-section to correspond with the interior of the pedestal and is correspondingly serrated, as shown at d, the serrations interlocking with the channels or grooves in the fierial No. 419,013- (No model.)

The stem B and the interior of the upright A have been described as rectangular; but it is obvious that other angular forms may be adopted which will accomplish the same object-that is, to prevent the upper part of the stand from turning and rendering the support to the boiler unsteady.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by' Letters Patent 1. A range-boiler stand consisting of a cast base and an adjustable upper part fitting inside the same and interlocking therewith, the base part being made intwo vertical and separable halves secured together by removable bolts and nuts, substantially as described.
2. A range-boiler stand consisting of a base part made in two vertical separable castmetal halves or sections transversely channeled or grooved on their inner surfaces and connected together by removable bolts and nuts and an adjustable section having a transversely-serrated stem, the interior of the upright tubular portion of the base and the stem of the adjustable part being angular in cross-section, substantially as described.
3. In a range-boiler stand, the combination, with the adjustable section B B, having the horizontally-serrated stem B of angular form in cross-section, of the base or pedestal A, consisting of two twin castings secured together at their abutting edges by detachable fastenings and formed with interior horizontal serrations, the space inclosed by the twin castings being of angular form in crosssection, to correspond with the form of the stern B, substantially as described.
