No. 467,944. Patented Feb. 2, 1892.`

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN F. MELLOTT, OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO MIKE LEE, OF SAME PLACE.
lRONlNG-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,944, dated February 2, 1892.
Application filed January Z0, 1891. Serial No. 378,497. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. MELLOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Table to be Used in Ironing and Pressing Cloths; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which Will enable others to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvements in ironing-tables; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my invention with the clothes-rack folded. Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof with the clothes-rack unfolded or extended. Fig. 3 is a detailed broken side view showing more particularly the bosom-board and its adjunctive parts, and Fig. -Lt is a detailed broken view showing the same parts inverted.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide the board A with pairs of crossing legs AA, one pair being hinged at l) to the board upon its under side and to its fellow or companion pair by the cross-rod a at the middle. The legs A A', when unfolded or extended to support the table in position for use, are sustained by the abutment of the upper free ends of one pair ofthe legs against a transverse cleat or stop f, secured to the under side of the board A. The sad-iron holder g, of suitable construction, is preferably held upon the board A by a screw or bolt. The sectional clothes-rack, composed of the sections f', m, and l, has the inner end of its underneath section also connected by said bolt or screw to said board. This rack has its several sections pivoted together to swing, mainly, horizontally. The outer section is provided with a hinged leg lo, capable of swinging vertically,
so as to support the horizontal sections of the clothes-rack.
AX is the bosom-board, hinged to the ironingboard A, the hinges each consisting of two right-angled leaves or plates ax am, pivoted together, the horizontal portion of one leaf or plate being secured to the board A upon its under side and the corresponding portion of the other leaf or plate being sccured to the board AX upon its Linder side. To the board AX, about the center of its in` ner edge, is hinged a base or support 'L' for said board, and to this base or support is hinged, as at i', the legj. From this it will be seen that the bosom-board A", together with its base or support and the leg of the latter, are capable of being folded against the legs A when the latter legs are folded, thus permitting the device to be conveniently stored in a small space.
Adapted to engage or fit the bosom-board A is a clamp or frame 7L to properly secure.
the bosom of the article or shirt it is desired to iron, said clamp or frame being pivoted at the free ends of its side bars h' by pivots h2 to the side edges of the board AX, permitting the raising and lowering of said clamp or frame, as required, in placing and removing the bosom of the shirt or other article.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The ironing-table consisting of the ironingboard and its supporting-legs, the bosomboard and its clamp, the support or base hinged to the under side of said bosom-board about central of its inner end or edge, the leg hinged to the base or support, said bosomboard being hinged to said ironing-board, and the hinge connection comprising two right-angled plates or leaves pivoted together and one leaf connected at its horizontal portion to said ironing-board and the corresponding portion of the other leaf being connected to said bosom-board, substantially as set forth.
