To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL HARRY Wns'r, of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ironing Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to an improvement in ironing-tables; and it consists in an ironingboard mounted on the edge of a table and having clamps for holding the piece to be ironed, which may be readily secured and released, all constructed and arranged as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ironing-table, showing my improvement with the clamps for holding the piece to be ironed in a locked position; and Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the projection with the clamps unlocked.

In constructing my invention I secure in any suitable manner to the end of an ironingtable, 1, a rest or projection, 2, of any suitable shape to serve as an ironing-board, and which is hereshown as adapted to shirt-bosoms. In a bracket, 1, secured to a corner of the table adjacent to the board 2, is pivoted aclamp, 3, which abuts against the end of said board, and is held in locked position by a spring, 4, or by any other suitable means. Against the outer end of the board 2 abuts a clamp, 5, mounted on an upright, 6, pivoted to a bracket, 7, extending from the support 8 at the end of the table. The lower end of the upright 6 is connected with the support 8 by a toggle-jointed brace, 8, consisting of the parts 9 and 10, hinged at 11 to the support 8, and to the upright 6 by a hinge, 12, the two parts 9 and 10 being hinged together by the hinge 13. The brace 8 is held in closed posi tion by a spring, 14, which also serves to tilt the pivoted upright 6 outward when brace S is thrown up, and hold it in an open position, as shown in Fig. 2. The upright 6 is pivoted on a projection, 15, of the bracket 7, which has the beveled cut-away portion 16 and the removable pin 17, which permits the upright 6 to be thrown into the position shown in Fig. 2.

\Vhen it is desired to iron a piece, as ashirtbosom, the spring-clamp 4 is moved back and the clamp 3 is raised out of the way, as shown in Fig. 2, and the brace 8- thrown up by means of the foot, or in any other convenient way, which causes the upright 6 to be tilted back, as shown. After the piece has been placed upon the projection or rest 2, its ends are clamped in position thereon by lowering the pivoted clamp 3 and allowing the spring 4 to clamp it, and by pushing down the parts 9 and 10 ofbraee S, which throws the upright 6 into a vertical position and brings the clamp 5 against the other end of the piece to be ironed. The tension of spring 14, acting upon brace S and upright 6, holds the latter in closed position.

By means of this device the piece to be ironed is securely held in place, and is readily clamped in position and unclamped.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a support and an ironing-board projecting therefrom, ofaswinging clamp for engaging the outer end of the ironing-board, a jointed brace hinged to the lower end of the clamp and to the support, and a spring for holding the brace in either a closed or open position, substantially as described.

2. The combination, with a support and an ironing-board projecting therefrom, of a lever pivoted to a bracket projecting from the support, a clamp on the upper end of the lever for engaging the end of theironing-board, and a sectional and hinged brace having its ends hinged to the support and to the lower end of the clamp carrying lever, substantially as herein shown and described.

3.
