Description

I J. G. STANLEY. Thread Board and Guide-for Spinning and Twisting Machines.
No. 226,126 Patented Mar. 30, 1880.

WITNESSES N.FETE.RS, PMOTO-UTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D C scribed, and having slots in its top and front Nrrn STATES THREAD BOARD AND GUIDE FOR SPINNING AND TWISTING MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 226,126, dated March 30, 1880.
Application filed January 2, 1,880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMEs O. STANLEY, of New Hartford, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Thread Boards and Guides for Spinning and Twisting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a reduced side view of the device, showing it in use. Fig. 2 is a plan of the device. Fig. 3 is a plan of its reverse side. Fig. 4 is a side elevation, partly in section. Fig. 5 is a plan of the reverse of a modification of the device.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to certain improvements in the thread-boards and thread-guides of spinning and twisting machines, whereby the thread-guide can be adjusted so that the threads, when delivered from the rolls, will run through the said guide centrally with the spindletip, and thereby escape the usual stretching and breaking.
The improvement consists in the combination, with a thread-board recessed as deedge, of a thread-guide pivoted by a set'screw in the slot in the top of said board, and extending forward through the slot in the front edge thereof, so that the said thread-guide can be adjusted forward or back or laterally to hold the threads central with the spindle'tip.
In the drawings, A represents the frame of the machine, to which is hinged, in the usual manner, a thread-board, B, recessed on the under side at a, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, having a slot, 1), in the center of its face and a slot, 0, in its front edge.
Pivoted by a set-screw, d, in the slot 1), and extending forward through the slot 0 of the board B, is the arm C, carrying the guideD in its forward end, as shown.
The thread-boards in common use are generally made of wood, and have the threadguides screwed into their front edges; consequently the latter cannot be moved independently of the former, and when, as is frequently the casein running spinning and twisting machines, the thread-guides are not set centrally over the point of the spindles, some of the threads passing from the rolls through the guides to the spindles are unduly stretched, and hence frequently break, thereby causing imperfections in the yarns.
In this device the thread-guide D can be adjusted in any desired direction by loosening the set-screw d and moving the arm C as required, which arm is then secured in position by turning down the said set-screw (I, so that the threads f shall be guided centrally over the spindle g.
This thread board and guide is of the same size as those commonlyin use, and can be readily substituted for them in any spinning and twisting machines.
The arm C herein shown is, in effect, only an extension of the thread-guide D, and may be constructed as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4, or as shown in Fig. 5, wherein this extension of the guide D'is a circular plate, as shown, instead of an elongated arm.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with the hinged threadboard B, recessed on the under side at a, and having slots 1) c, of the arm 0, pivoted by a set-screw, d, in slot 1), and carrying the guide D at its forward end, as and for the purpose specified.
